Dave Bartholomew – The Monkey (1957)

A wonderful slice of 1950s rock’n'roll. Dave Bartholomew’s “The Monkey” is an erudite work of philosophy calling into question the Darwinian evolutionary process and representing the Hegelian teleological dialectic against that of Karl Marx. The struggle of class against class (as John Cleese might say) “don’t enter into it”. It’s also an early blueprint for Mark E Smith and The Fall. What’s not to like?

I’ve gone for the crackly Youtube version from the original vinyl.

This is a brilliant CD …
