Nirvana – Molly’s Lips (1992)
Now, in my last widely read post, I introduced the “blogosphere” to the concept of the “relentless” music genre. Now, I introduced this genre to you gently with Sniff ‘n the Tears Driver’s Seat – a song, quixotically, not actually about a driver’s seat as far as I can tell.
No matter.
One of the kings of the relentless genre is Molly’s Lips by Nirvana. This trumps the Sniff ‘n’ the Tears song on the grounds that: (a) it only has two chords rather than three; (b) I can play this slightly more competently; (c) it is even more relentless. In due course you will find that it is close to being, but isn’t quite, the most relentless record of all time.
Most will know that this is actually a cover of a Vaselines song. However, in my view the Vaselines’ version of their own song is rather twee and tedious (sorry, Kurt).
There are two versions here. One is a home made slideshow over the recorded version (not home made by me you understand). The second is a great clip of Nirvana at MTV in 1992.
