Sonic Youth – Tunic (Song for Karen) (1990)
So, there I was humming away to Johnny Burnette (see previous post) and I suddenly found that I couldn’t live without hearing Tunic by Sonic Youth. Now, I don’t know about you folk but I blow hot and cold on Sonic Youth. However, on any track from the Goo LP from 1989, I never blow anything other than hot (not sure if that makes a great deal of sense but there are few things better than an extended metaphor). Never have so many walls of guitar noise been used to such good effect and it’s all about Karen Carpenter (who I feel honour bound to feature in the next post …..).
