Archers of Loaf – Web in Front (1993)
I heard this track on John Peel some time in 1993 and bought the 7 inch single at the Rough Trade shop in Covent Garden the next day. The song became so popular in the Department of Social Security Analytical Services Division (no, really) that I was sent out to buy up whatever remaining stock Rough Trade had. Never big sellers, Archers of Loaf were up there alongside Pavement, Smog and, er, Shrimptractor, in the pantheon of lo-fi rock greats of the early 1990s. Still sounds great.
