Okay, it’s Sunday night. Manchester City are in the FA Cup Final for the first time in 30 years. There’s a spot of red wine available and Simple Minds have suddenly lurched into the frame. As such, my anti-synth pop credentials are in the gutter and I am wallowing in any old tripe that involved a ZX-80 or an Apple II.

Fortunately, I can call on the excellence of the late, and occasionally great, Robert Palmer to get me out of a hole. In due course, the sheer audacity of the video for Addicted to Love will get an airing on this blog but, in the meantime, beat this for pop perfection ….
