Serge Gainsbourg – Ballade de Melody Nelson (1971)

Breaking off from an F. Scott Fitzgerald and Bootsy Collins jag in the garden (an under rated combination), I suddenly developed an urge to hear this sublime two minutes of classic French pop. From the Histoire du Melody Nelson LP released in 1971 (that year again!). Really wish there had been an extended 8 minute version of this at some point.

The bassline on this is just fantastic.
