Miles Davis – Rated X (1973)
Having wallowed in a bunch of synth-pop, punk rock platitudes, I thought we needed to bring a bit of much needed avant-garde rigour and inaccessibility to this blog.
This is not an unpleasant task and I feel rather spoilt for choice.
However, where better to land than a classic track from the “Electric Miles” period of the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Sure, we all love Kind of Blue, Sketches of Spain, Bitches Brew, etc (with posts to come in future). But what better way to insert ourselves into the Miles Davis canon than Rated X. Sounding like the most far out Krautrock/cosmic jam, a real landmark in rock/jazz history.
Original LP version from 1973 (slightly dodgy Youtube link, mind) then a great Bill Laswell “reconstruction” from 1998 …
