Wallias Band – Musiqawi Silt (1974 ish)

One of my favourite discoveries over the last few years has been the phenomenal “Ethiopiques” series of CDs. Charting Ethiopian and Eritrean music through the 1960s and 1970s, there are now 27 volumes. Each one is different but the inventiveness and power of the music is breathtaking.

Will no doubt end up posting a few tracks but this is a great place to start. Dense, funk, instrumental with killer bass and horns …
