The Clean – Twist Top (1996)
Taking a slight detour from the Manchester evening/weekend/century, I just needed to make a return to the Flying Nun Records motherlode from New Zealand.
When the history of rock’n'roll is written, I am quite clear that the work of The Clean will loom large. Ferociously independent and melodic, they have been responsible for some of the most influential and innovative tracks of the last 30 years. Difficult to believe that Pavement would have been so perfect without them.
However, this blog does not move in chronological order and so I leap ahead from The Clean’s seminal days of the 1980s to 1996 and to the fantastic “Twist Top” from the Unknown Country LP.
Simply, this is pop genius.
Three million people can be wrong. Three million people can be wrong
The track and then a video that seems to skip!
Never heard of them before but I have to say I like what I hear!
