The Clash – Guns of Brixton (1979)

I can only apologise for wallowing in the genius of punk/reggae soundclashes this evening.

Sure, I could have submitted the Clash’s sublime reading of “Police and Thieves” or “Armagideon Time” in my increasingly dubious segue from (ahem …) UB40 to The Ruts. But why not take in, instead, The Clash’s original contribution to the reggae bassline hall of fame?

I loved the London Calling LP from the day it came out.

A couple of years later, I, and many of my classmates, saw The Clash play a stellar 3 hour gig in Hong Kong in 1982 the day before my 18th birthday – life affirming stuff.

Classic track from the wonderful “London Calling” double LP. Killer bassline and Paul Simenon on a rare vocal outing.
