Big Star – September Gurls (1974)

The only time, so far, when a band has got a back to back listing on the (err ….) world’s number one music blog ….

Recorded two years after “Thirteen” (see previous post), September Gurls is just a classic pop song and now, rightly, regarded as one of the foundation tracks for the criminally undervalued “Powerpop” genre ( I will be putting this oversight right over the next few weeks).

The guitar on this is staggering and the breaks/solos at 1:27 and 2:20 are up there with the most perfect moments in the history of all music. If pressed, I would identify those few seconds as my favourite musical moments of all time – 10 seconds is enough ……..

Altogether now ..

December boys got it bad …

Not that I can relate to this having been born in February. No matter.
