The Stranglers – Hanging Around (1977)

The Stranglers were never quite in the pantheon of “cool” punk rock bands but they recorded some of the finest music of the late 1970s. This was always my favourite track  and there is something about the opening bassline that reminds me of the previous post featuring The Tempatations.

Hanging Around appeared on their wonderful debut LP “Rattus Norvegicus” and still sounds fantastic.

LP version then frantic live footage from “Rock Goes to College” in 1978 followed by a definitive live reading from Paris in 1979 – the last clip is just fantastic, especially when the bass comes in at 0:32!
