Eggs -The Government Administrator (1993)

Hey, a big shout out to all the civil servants out there – how many tracks are based on civil service selection procedures? “Not enough”, I hear you bay.

Bought the 7″ single of this from Rough Trade in Covent Garden after the late, great, John Peel played this in 1993. Still sounds remarkably prescient ..

I’d be a pale impersonator, of a Government administrator

But I went down anyway to apply

And I stood around looking nervous at the other would be civil servants

As we filled our forms and formed a straight line

Looking back on the test later, I can’t figure out what was greater

The pressure to succeed or the will to even try

Cos the test of Government letters, smacks of having nothing else better

And brother, thats a hard thing to justify

Obviously, we all now understand the power of civil service selection. Amazing how this could be a bone of contention less than 20 years ago ….. staggering. Tsk. Tsk.
