Human League – Don’t You Want Me (1981)
Just heard tonight that Martin Rushent died over the weekend.
I’ve previously posted the fruits of his work, without acknowledgement I’m ashamed to say (for example, here producing the classic first Stranglers LP) but nothing can top his work on the classic Human League LP “Dare”.
From start to finish, a work of unsurpassable pop/synth/electro perfection.
Never better than on the era defining “Don’t You Want Me” … never sounded better than tonight.
I was a 17 year old Joy Division fanatic when this came out, but this is, quite simply, a record of genius.
The world would be a poorer place without Martin Rushent and, at the end of the day, no individual can ask more than that as an epitaph.
The video then Top of the Pops. Thank you Martin.
