Sheila and B.Devotion – Spacer (1980)
Disco heaven!
Now, obviously, in 1980 I was mainly listening to Crispy Ambulance B-Sides, the dub version of the Basement 5 LP and a host of “not even popular at the time” post punk “never weres”.
Secretly though, I always loved anything which featured Nile Rodgers on guitar. Even now, this track is a bit of a guilty pleasure. Nonetheless, I am happy to publicly say that “Spacer” is a legitimate entry into the bestmusicofalltime hall of fame.
I have also mastered all the dance moves on the video. Oh yes.
In this episode, Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards team up with moribund French chanteuse (Annie Chancel) and hit Chic related paydirt once again.
A great minor key riff ascends to pure rhythm guitar heaven at 4:00 mins when Sheila’s warbles are put on the back burner for 70 seconds ….
How can one man (Nile Rodgers) have been responsible for so much?
