The Carpenters – Superstar (1971)

Irritatingly, I am finding 1971 to be one of the greatest years in music history (see past and future posts …). I was motivated to slip in The Carpenters at this point following my last post on Sonic Youth. There are many great Carpenters tracks but this has always been the pinnacle for me. “Loneliness is such a sad affair and I can hardly wait to be with you again” – only Morrissey would have the guts to wallow this deep (that is meant as a compliment).
