The Breeders – One Divine Hammer (1993)

“One Divine Hammer” is just a sublime slice of pop music from The Breeders – try and listen to this without developing a big grin!

One of a number of singles that were released from their classic “Last Splash” LP (gotta say, I always preferred the LP version but this sounds just fine). Featuring the super talented Kim Deal taking time out from her day job with The Pixies – not many people have been in two such great bands …

A close reading of the lyrics suggests that Ms Deal is contemplating doing some DIY but has just realised that she doesn’t have all of the equipment required to complete the task. One trusts that she had a Homebase just round the corner.

Three versions …. the Spike Jonze video, a classic festival performance and then The Letterman show. All perfect.
