Elvis Costello – Alison (1977)

Wasn’t intending to post tonight, but I heard something  that reminded me of this song.

It just came into consciousness and needed an outlet.

A work of utter genius.

One of the first “punk” records that stepped back from the thrash and tried to reflect. Clearly the standout track from Elvis’ debut LP  “My Aim is True”.

I am still not sure this is better than “Watching The Detectives” (of which, more later!) but, who cares. Pop pickers, remind me of a better track to hit the charts in the last 20 years (that didn’t directly, or indirectly, involve Cee Lo Green ….)

The LP/single version then a super early (and dodgy) live cut. Just a perfect record!
