Pixies – Gigantic (1988)

Pixies are quite simply one of the greatest bands of all time and between 1987 and 1991 they released five of the most essential LPs you could ever want to hear.

Gigantic was the only single taken from the classic 1988 LP “Surfer Rosa” and, inevitably, it largely sank without trace.

Co-written (and sung) by bassist Kim Deal, a classic bassline underscores a tongue in cheek chorus which, apparently, has connotations that innocents abroad like myself might not have contemplated …

And this I know
His teeth as white as snow
What a gas it was to see him
Walk her every day
Into a shady place
With her lips she said
She said

Hey Paul, Hey Paul, Hey Paul, let’s have a ball

Gigantic, gigantic, gigantic
A big big love
Gigantic, gigantic, gigantic
A big big love

There are so many fantastic live versions of this on Youtube. The first two videos are from 1988 and the third is the original studio version.
