The Bevis Frond – Johnny Kwango (2011)

The Bevis Frond have been making records since 1987 and have now released over 20 LPs.

Only ever in the background of what I was listening to over the last 25 years, I always sensed them as being a sort of reliable “meat and potatoes” type of band; workmanlike and efficient but never likely to leave a taste that sticks in the memory for long.

However, every so often I am jolted out of this view by a track of theirs that just soars. Just as everyone who buys enough tickets must surely eventually win the lottery, perhaps there is an equivalent rule that, if you write enough songs, you will inevitably compose a masterpiece?

I have previously posted another classic by The Bevis Frond here and I have no hesitation in elevating this, the opening track from 2011’s “The Leaving of London” to the pantheon of the Bestmusicofalltime!

The LP version then an amateur video of a live London performance in 2011.
