Sparklehorse – Cow (1995)

A post tonight from an old friend on Facebook reminded me what a great band Sparklehorse were.

Never quite as good as Pavement, they, nonetheless, were a key part of the wonderful underground US lo-fi scene of the early to mid 1990s. Alongside Archers of Loaf, Sammy, Flaming Lips, Palace Brothers, Small, etc.

“Cow” from their debut LP “Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot” was always my favourite track of theirs – you can’t beat a bit of banjo.

Sparklehorse were the brainchild of Mark Linkous and they released five LPs between 1995 and 2009. Linkous shot himself through the heart in 2010 aged 47.

The LP version then a very rough amateur video shot in Leeds in 1999.
