Radio Birdman – Hanging On (1978)

Beautiful Saturday afternoon and I’ve succumbed to an overwhelming need to post some Australian punk rock – you know how it is.

Along with The Saints (previously posted here), Radio Birdman were one the key Australian (and, indeed, worldwide) punk bands of the mid to late 1970s. Formed in 1974, Radio Birdman were done and dusted and broken up by 1978. Members of the band subsequently went on to play in the seminal bands The New Christs and New Race.

This track was recorded in 1978 but only saw the light of day in 1981 when Radio Birdman’s second LP “Living Eyes” finally saw a commercial release.

Classic punk rock with the odd nod to early Stranglers. Check it here.

Another one of my fave Oz bands. I thought Deniz Tech was so cool: A trained ER doctor and ex-navy flight surgeon who also played guitar in a punky type band. Aloha Steve and Danno with the Hawaii Five-0 guitar beak, brilliant! I could play ‘New Race’ on my guitar in the 80s.
